Ancient Greek lyre is a musical instrument that today claims its place in the pantheon of traditional Greek instruments. The revival of the lyre, either as a result of scientific research by archaeologists or as a creation of inspiration by luthiers, is now a fact. The recordings are many and varied. The repertoire also varies from surviving pieces of antiquity to performances of traditional songs, contemporary compositions, and improvisations.
Lyre's sound touches strings of the heart. Its materials and form have a primordial beauty and power so that it is rightly still one of the most recognizable symbols of music.
On 13 October seven ancient lyre performers will meet at 1002 Nights music stage.
Each one has a unique, personal style of playing. All lyre players explore techniques and ways of expressing deriving inspiration from the Greek and Latin lyrical poetry.
